Hello and Welcome to What is a Natural Thyroid Treatment?
This is a dedicated space for all tea lovers but with a health twist. I mainly focus on the health aspect of drinking herbal tea.
What is a Natural Thyroid Treatment?
Disclaimer
I am not medically trained and I am not a scientist. I have done a lot of research over the years since I started living with a thyroid conditions and was amazed to find out that I did not need to have the radiation treatment that I had.
The radiation treatment only traded one thyroid condition for another. I was first diagnosed with overactive thyroid and after the treatment I then had underactive thyroid condition.
Only to find out during my research that it is easier to control an underactive thyroid, medically.
So I am sharing the methods that I use to help to reduce my synthetic medication. My goal is to totally come off this medication by getting it reduced until it cannot be reduced anymore and I am totally off them.
Then I would have reached my ultimate goal of healing my thyroid. YAY.
Did you know that Levothyroxine is the 3rd most popular drug in the UK and the most prescribed in the US.
In the UK alone the number of prescriptions has risen from 2.8 million in the 1998 to 19 million in 2007 and 29 million in 2014.
This means the cost per day has increased from less than £5,000 to more than £40,000.
I got this information from the British Thyroid Association and find it really interesting that they have put this information together with the cost rather than the cure. Just putting it out there.
Right before I get started with the good stuff I want to highlight one of the most popular hot drinks, and that is coffee.
I am not saying that coffee does not have its benefits, but if you have a thyroid condition it can actually do more harm that good.
When you have a thyroid condition coffee is one of the worse drinks to drink full stop.
I will now show you how coffee can harm your thyroid and get in the way of you healing your thyroid.
How Coffee Can Harm Your Thyroid
Coffee contains caffeine, making it an intense stimulant for the central nervous system. Now coffee has a high level of caffeine which will increase cortisol products. This will boost our energy levels but this is kind of a temporary high.
Now this constant releasing of stress hormones will eventually leave the adrenals and immune system in a continuous state of exhaustion.
This constant release of the stress hormones will cause the body to start gaining weight and along with that comes sleeping issues, not to mention the terrible crashes that comes after a boost in energy.
Put all that together with a condition such as hypothyroidism, full details of hypothyroidism can been seen here.
So knowing all of this what would you drink now…..
Alternatives to Coffee
