The word affirmation is thrown around like everyone should know what it means and many times even the person talking about affirmations does not really know what it means. So What is an affirmation?

To affirm means to say something positively. It is to declare firmly and assert something to be true.

Affirmations are statements where you assert that what you want to be true is true.

I will explain in more detail in this article, I will also have some affirmations at the end that you can start using today.

Affirmation are more regularly use today in all forms of life.

It is used in the sport’s industry, leadership, team building, business, self-help, coaching, counseling, mental health, rehabilitation, substance miss-use, entertainment, celebrities, film industry, education, school, colleges, universities, hospitals, offices, employee training, and much more.

Affirmations are a way of being in conscious control of your thoughts. It helps to keep you focused.

When you say your affirmation out loud to yourself it will start a powerful process that will start to become your dominate thought which will create your reality.

What is an Affirmation?

An Affirmation is a short powerful statement or statements that you can speak to yourself out loud or think it in your mind and more commonly now hear them.

Repeating these powerful statements to yourself will start to become your dominate thought which will shape you reality.

This then becomes your conscious thought.

What does the Research Say?

Research shows that we have between 45,000 and 51,000 thoughts a day. That’s about 150 to 300 thoughts a minute. Research has also shows that for most people 80% of those thoughts are negative.

So if you find that life is not shaping up to how you would like it to be. The first place to start is to monitor how you are thinking most of the time.

Now, we have been taught to think that most of these 51,000 thoughts are “sub-conscious” thoughts meaning that they are below our conscious awareness level.

This means that our thoughts are shaped over time and this could be that many of your thoughts are deep-rooted in your sub-conscious thought.

You can monitor this by listening to yourself.

For example, you may have arguments going on inside your head at times over a situation or circumstance that you have experienced.

Affirmations actually make your sub-conscious thoughts conscious.

Saying affirmations daily or even many times throughout the day, will make you consciously aware of your thoughts.

The good thing about this is that you will become more aware of the negative thoughts going on in your head. The more you use your affirmations the more you will notice when you’re negative thoughts start showing up.

When I started using Affirmations I noticed that at time I would have this battle going on in my head. So I quickly learned how to make my positive thought dominate my thinking.

I would repeat my affirmation several times and after a while I realise that I had the power of my thoughts and could quickly change my thinking when I wanted to and not the other way round.

There is a saying that you may have heard of,

“Be careful what you think of because what you think you will get”

This is a very true saying, and another one that I have used several times is

Self-fulfilling Prophecy

Which is basically the same thing.

It is very important that we are aware about what we are speaking into our lives, and the power of affirmations helps in taking control of our thoughts.

Because like attracts like, meaning that if your think negative thoughts most of the time, which will bring negative things into your life. You will be inviting more of the same.

This then becomes a cycle.

 

When you are not aware of your thoughts, your thoughts will tend to be negative, in turn bringing negativity into your life.

Remember 80% of thoughts are negative throughout the day and many of those thoughts will get carried over to the next day and then added to 51,000 thoughts of the new day and so on and so forth.

This happening continually day in and day out will start to get you down and in some cases cause depression and other forms of mental illness.

Affirmations can change all of that, because using affirmations will make you conscious of your thoughts.

To affirm means to say something positively. It is to declare firmly and assert something to be true.

Affirmations are statements where you assert that what you want to be true is true.

Pure and simple.

I must state here that the most powerful affirmations always start with I AM and the next will be the ones that start with I.

Although the general rule is that it just as to be a positive statement.

The best time to start saying your affirmations is NOW, and then start each day with then.

I start my day with gratitude. I would say thank you as I wake up and then whilst I am getting ready in the morning I will say my chosen affirmations for that day.

You can choose one or a few but not to many focus on a couple at a time until you feel it in your being when you say it.

  • I am smart and capable of accomplishing anything
  • I am grateful for everything I have in my life
  • I am diligent
  • I am hard-working
  • I am energetic and full of enthusiasm
  • I am calm and peaceful
  • I am focused and energised
  • I am full of energy
  • I have a fun filled and rewarding life
  • I have like minded people around me
  • I have everything I need
  • I have completed my goals for today
  • I am the architect of my life and build the foundation and choose what I have in it.
  • I have a brilliant mind and very good memory
  • I have a wonderful relationship with (name the person).
  • I have a successful business
  • Today is a good day
  • Today is a great day

You can always create your own affirmations.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

  1. I enjoyed this article and this is one of the things that we all struggle with, yet we can have control over this very thing. Yes we have to make a concerted effort to be aware of our thoughts and change those thoughts to good positive thoughts… this aligns with God’s will for our lives, consider: “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” Phillipians 4:8
