The Alkaline Diet – Review 2018: How Can It Improve Your Life?

I am really into living as naturally as possible. So when I come across a product that I can really relate to, I just have to review and share what I am learning. So here is another one. The Alkaline diet.

What Is Wrong With Our Diet Today?

The diet of great-grandparents is completely different to the diet today. With technology advancing and the quality of the foods we consume dropping. The way that animals are raised and sometimes the environment in which that are raised is a lot to be left to the imagination. The foods displayed showing aisles and aisles of processed food in supermarkets are shocking today.

Along with the amount of fast food companies lining the streets. I counted four fast food companies in a row yesterday, not far from where I live. Four in a row!

Diet fads are growing in popularity and are partly to blame for the introduction of a new way of eating. Animal products have increased a long with the consumption. In turn refined foods have increased ten fold, because we have easy access to it and it is convenient. The more these convenient foods are consumed the more daily consumption of fruits and vegetables are left behind.

It should come as no surprise that illnesses have increased over the years and allergies have also increased. Diabetes, skin conditions, hair loss, heart diseases, blood disorders and many others.

Many health experts are linking these diseases to the types of food that we are eating. Certain foods disrupt the balance of the body, it disrupts how our bodies’ function and causes malfunctions within our bodies’, which is shown by health problems occurring.

If we could help our bodies’ to function as it should, then it could be likely to prevent diseases and keep us healthy. Also, it could restore our bodies’ back to being healthy.

Why Alkaline is Important?

Alkaline is important because the body needs to have an acid to alkaline ratio. This is shown by the pH levels in our body. The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14, anything below 7 is considered acidic. Consuming fast foods, meat products, sweets, processed foods and some drinks will produce and extreme amount of acid in the body.

When our bodies’ start producing extreme amount of acid in the blood stream and body tissue, other wise known as Acidosis. Did you know that many diseases have this one thing in common and in many cases can be fatal.

The main role of Alkaline is to neutralize the excess acid in the body. Alkaline is produced naturally in the body for this purpose.

However, with lifestyle today the alkaline gets depleted at times. With the increased consumption of fast foods and processed foods the body does not get the time to produce the amount of alkaline it needs to get the body back into the right balance.

How to Maintain a Healthy pH Level?

I mentioned earlier, that consuming too much acid creating foods can cause acidosis that will cause health problems over time. When we have too much acid in our body it will start of affect the tissues and organs. To avoid this from happening in the body we must create and healthy Ph balanced environment in the body and maintain this. To avoid acidosis we must increase the bodies’ alkalinity.

In determining that our Ph levels are alkalized, can be done easily by purchasing Ph level strips from any medical or drug store. There are pH level strips for using for saliva to test your pH levels or you can get Ph level strips for testing your urine.

Saliva pH Level Strips

Saliva pH level strips will show how much acid you are producing in your body, normally readings are between 6.5 and 7.5 throughout any given day.

Urine pH Level Strips

Urine pH level strips will tell you know how well your body excretes excess amount of acid. Testing in the morning should read between 6.0 and 6.5 and testing at night should read between 6.5 and 7.0.

What If You Have Excessive Acid?

There are many symptoms that show that you have high levels of acid in your body. Such as, headaches and having colds and the flu often. But the effects of acidosis do not just stop there, you may be surprised at the different types of diseases you could get from having excessive amount of acid within your body.

Heart diseases, bronchitis, frequently getting infections, joint diseases, hyeracidity osteoporosis, and blood disorders these are the more serious effects of acidosis.

Here are some that many people would not link to acidosis, which are depression, ulcer, acne, skin dryness and obesity.

Even with medication for these illnesses, quite often than not it will only mask the symptoms, your health will still be affected. This is due to the fact that the illness is not being attacked from the roots. If doesn’t really matter what medication you are taking, it could be pills, anti-inflammatory, which in fact only make your body more acidic due to taking them.

Alkaline Diet Approach

Getting to the roots of many health problems, the body must be brought back to the correct pH level. In the same way that you have foods that can create excessive acid in the body, There are alkaline foods to help to increase the alkaline levels in the body help to neutralize the excess amount of acid in the body. This can be done through an alkaline diet, introducing sufficient amounts of alkaline into the body. This will help the body to become mainly alkaline.

How Can You Start An Alkaline Diet?

The first thing you can do is to start cutting down on processed foods, fast foods, drinking sodas, (fizzy drinks). These foods contain chemicals. These chemicals will increase the acid in your body, so cutting down and eventually cutting them out will help you a lot.

The Second thing to do is to start cutting down to eventually cutting out meat and meat products, such as, dairy products and Alcohol.

The Third thing is to increase the amount of fruits and vegetables, because fruits and vegetables are naturally high in alkalinity.

Fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, although they are acidic in nature, when they are digested and absorbed by the body they become alkaline.

How many Fruit and Vegetables?

A general rule is to eat 75% alkaline foods daily. The more we eat alkaline foods and provide our bodies’ with, the more efficiently the body will become in neutralizing excess acids.

  4. This is a good post.

Far too many people fail to understand the two main causes of disease: acidity in the body and inflammation. As you mentioned, processed foods are a killer, because they are loaded with chemicals. Most people eat way too much processed food on a daily basis. Because of the lack of healthy nutrition, it sets the stage for inflammation.

Once that happens, it’s all downhill from there. You can turn your health around, but you have to have the absolute determination to do it.

  5. It’s so coincidental, I just borrowed a book about alkaline diet too, from the library earlier today. I’m trying to learn about the benefits of an alkaline diet. And if I understand it correctly, bottomline is no processed foods, sugars and meat. More fruits and vegetables. Ok, I’m glad my family’s diet is already moving in that direction. Thanks for all the great information!

  10. I believe in alkaline diet but hardly practice. Just can’t stop myself from eating those delicious but acidic food. Things get worse recently when I continuously eat meat, spicy and heavily spiced food recently. My skin shows symptoms recently by having lots of breakouts. Even have small red patches and itchiness. Thanks for the article, a reminder as a need for me to start alkaline food quickly.

    • Hi Florence

Thank you for your visit and comment much appreciated.

Our skin will almost always show when we eat things that are not good for us. But as soon as you start to cut down on some of the bad foods and drink more water our skin starts to clear up.

This is to show that many foods today are toxic to our body.

Many thanks for sharing I would love to know how you get on with changing you diet.

  11. I love this blog post.  Nobody discusses the ph of food.  I don’t personally monitor my food ph but rather use a modified “paleo” eating plan.  I eat with more of a focus on vegetables rather than meat however.  I still eat meat but in smaller portions.  I also try to monitor my carb intake from the veggies.  I love squash and sweet potatoes but I eat them in moderation.  Although I have not researched this, I recently listened to a program on NPR in which they stated that some zoos have discontinued feeding animals fruit, because they were gaining too much weight.

They went on to say that since the 1930’s fruit has been modified through selective breeding to have an emphasis in sweetness and less seeds rather than nutrition value.  Just something to think about.

I love the point you made about fruit and vegetables.  My take on fruit is that I only eat fruits that have seeds I have stopped eating seedless because I know that they have been modified and in a lot of cases many of these seedless fruits are copyrighted.

Yes Copyrighted.  This tells me a lot.  These seedless fruits can only grow once so many farmers have to keep purchasing these modified plants.  I know this to be true from my research.

Many potato farmers use this method.

The Paleo eating plan has a good success rate.

      Many thanks

  12. Hello, wish you a nice Sunday. I like the posts you always share with us there are very informative. Eating and drinking have became critical these days because of fast food, processed food which contain chemicals. People these days are busy making money but they forget something very important” health”. Without good health that money is nothing , that’s why caring about food and drinks we take is very important. Alkaline is one of the important element to avoid acid in our bodies, and taking fruits is one of the remedies to get it .But finding natural fruits became also a problem as soil contain much acid too. I think that alkaline diet is needed. Where can i find it online?

  13. Awesome article and on a topic that I’ve been getting more and more interested in lately.  I’ve been hearing so much about how we need to keep our gut flora happy and more alkalined.  I’ve also heard that eating more fermented foods helps with that as well.

I’ve been trying hard lately to cut out as much meat as possible and dairy (even though I do love cheese), and processed foods.  And as hard as it can be for the first couple of days, i found that I crave less sweets and  no longer have bloating in my stomach.  You also notice a difference in your bathroom routines which is a good thing because we all need fast moving pipes 🙂

Thanks for sharing this great info!!
