The way that I have been told to clean my copper bottle is to squeeze half a lemon into the bottle and then add one tablespoon of salt with half a cup of water.  Then I could close the lid and shake the bottle so that the mixture is completely mixed up and then after a good few seconds I would pure the mixture out of the bottle and rinse with water.  I tend to rinse with bottled water and not tap water.

  1. The copper bottle in the picture looks really nice.  I really had no idea that copper could do all that to water, and I am very intrigued by the health benefits.  I try to drink a lot of water every day, and drinking water from a copper bottle would just add to the health benefits, plus the bottle is so elegant looking.  My question is can you just fill it with tap water, and it will purify it?

Yes you can fill the copper bottle with tap water and it will purify it, because this is one of the jobs of copper so the tap water will be much healthier to drink.

But personally I would put distilled water, filtered water and or bottled water into the copper bottle. For no other reason than I am keeping away from tap water as much as possible because of the amount of chemicals that is in city tap water nowadays.

      I hope this helps

      Thank you

  2. Hi Jennifer it seems there are some very good health benefits to using a copper water bottle. Do you know if they come in other sizes or is it just the one standard size? Water is an important part of our lives and it is good to know that something like this could help prevent illness from unclean water and also kill bacteria that other products and filters may not protect us from. Thank you for your interesting and helpful article.

This particular copper bottle only comes in this size, but I will be doing other reviews on other sizes.  Unfortunately many of the copper bottles that are for sale are not pure copper so my research is taking longer than I thought it would.

      Thank you

  3. Thank you, this is a really interesting post. I am currently researching whether to get a copper bottle and this post has really helped me to understand the benefits. It will be really good to get rid of my horrible plastic one, I am sure that water will taste much better out of one of these and with the health benefits as well it is surely a good way to go. Do you recommend a particular bottle?

Yes I recommend that copper bottle on this page.

Drinking water from a copper bottle is wonderful the water tastes so light and refreshing.  The closest I have got to drinking water straight from a spring in the mountains when I was younger, it is a taste i will never forget and I have also compared my drinking water to this experience.

      Thank you

  4. I originally started looking at the copper bottles because they are so pretty, and I always feel like they keep the water cooler than a plastic bottle.  There’s just something about drinking from copper.  Now I read your article and find that not only is the bottle absolutely beautiful, but it actually improves the water?  What?  That’s amazing.  I love that it has a sterilizing effect on the water and it helps with acne?  That’s great!  Thank you so much for sharing this info.  I am super excited to get a copper bottle to drink from.

  5. After your opening statement, “According to Ayurveda water stored in a copper vessel / bottle has the ability to balance all three of what they call Doshas in your body,(vata, kapha and pitta),” I almost clicked away from the post.  I thought, great, I have to embrace some sort of philosophy or belief system to understand the benefits of a copper bottle. That could take more time than I want to spend. But I continued anyway and found a lot of great information about the benefits described in terms I could embrace.  There are so many.

I have spent many years living in China where most people carry some sort of container with hot water or tea in it to drink throughout the day.  Is copper suitable for hot beverages?  With all the health benefits of copper, the Chinese would likely embrace its use quickly.  Any thoughts on this?

Thanks for your very informative and interesting post.

    • Hi Joe,

Thank you for your visit and comment much appreciated.

Firstly I was just mentioning the Ayurveda as a background to where I got my research and maybe I should make this clearer so thank you for mentioning that point.

This particular copper bottle would not be suitable for hot drinks as it is pure copper and the heat would make it difficult to hold.

I personally use it to infuse my drinking water.

I will at some stage looking into insulated copper bottles which could hold hot drinks so that you for this information.

      Many thanks

      Jennifer
